Mrs.Tracy's Lesson on Open-Midedness

This was a very strange lesson because we were divided in  2 groups and we were 2 different cultures. I was in the Chispa culture and the Chispas invited the Pandyas for a party. We had to talk to them and find out about them and their culture. After that we disscused what we found out but actually the Pandyas were not mean but they just followed their culture. They had many rules like they call others Mr. or ma'm. But the Chispas called others by first names and liked to make friend and find out about other cultures. I think this was a very exciting lesson and I think it teaches open-midedness by the Chispas not judging the Pandyas by their culture but by what type of person they are.

What Did I Learn This Week?

This week I learned a lot!
In math I learned about how to find information in your SRB and how to make graphs out of information. In writing we rewieved persuasive paragraphs. I reading we had a guided reading sharing time and I learned how to do my guided reading sheets. In PYP we talked a lot about advertising and I learned a lot about what we are going to be doing this unit. What I learned out of school is that I learned a few peices that I play on my violin.
Overall, this week was great!

Why Read?

There are many reasons why people should read. One reason is that you can reasearch in books. Another reason why you should read is that you can learn new words by reading a book of a higher level each time you read. Reading brings knowledge to everyone. When you read a book you understand the widsom of the person who wrote it. Also when you read a book the events that happen dont happen to you, but you still contribute in the event and picture the event. When you read a book you travel 100 or 1000 years ago but that cant really happen so you have to picture it. Through books we can feel the characters feeling and through books you do not only give us knowledge but teaches us how to be kind, brave and risk-taking,  to be merciful and feel compassion for others.

Afterall you can just read for fun and relax.  I read lots of different genres: fiction and nonfiction. When I read a book I enjoy it and that's what I do for fun.

Active Listening

To show that you are listening activly you should sit up and look at the speaker. You should THINK about what he or she said and make connections in your head. You should ignore distractions and stay focused on the speaker only. Also do not fiddle with something and participate if you are asked to; tell ideas and ask quetions if something is not clear to you. It is important to be an active listener to understand others ideas and help others and learn from them.

Advertising Taste Test

Today we had a taste test to see if we were influenced by advertising or we actually knew the taste. We tasted Coca Cola, Cola and Pepsi. We had to drink from cups wich were labeled A,B and C so we had to tell the one we like the most and wich one we say was wich. I liked B the most. I thought A was Pepsi, B was Coca Cola and C was Cola. But actually, A was Coca Cola, B was Pepsi and C was Cola. I got one out of  three right but still I had very much fun doing this experiment!

Open-Mindedness

Its important to be open-minded because its interesting to hear other peoples opinions about something. It is important to listen to others not only yourself because maybe someone else said something more exciting than you did or adde something to your suggestion and you are only concentrating on your idea. You should be flexible with other peoples ideas because maybe you suggested something immpossoble. Also I think that it is important to be open minded to have friends. But also it is important to not be open- minded always because others will never accept your ideas and your friends will play only what they want to play.

What is Prejudice?

Prejudice is predjudjing other people by the nationality or religion without getting to know them first. I think its very mean for someone to dislike someone because of his or her religion or nationality. To decide wether you like someone or not you should get to know him or her first. Its bad to have prejudice because it doesnt matter wich skin color the person hasor wich religion he or she is as long as he or she is a nice friend. It doesnt matter what the person is wearing or where he or she was born as long as he or she wants to be your friend. But also once you get to know the person and the person is mean, you have the right to not be his or her friend.
